This is an unusual garden scene that has Surrealistic qualities. Using a traditional approach in their technique and paint application, the artist has created a background that depicts a manicured English garden will tall, sculpted hedges. In the foreground, created with similar skilled brush work, a group of tulips, echoing those seen in the distance, stand tall with upright elongated stems.

In-between these two plains is the harlequin. The figure leaps above the ground with legs spread in an aerial splits. Their colourful bejewelled costume includes a bodysuit, headpiece and mask. The mere presence of the figure in the scene, and the unbelievable distance that it seems to fly above the ground, gives this work a uniqueness. By combining these different elements themes of size, compatibility and expectation are explored. The result is an incongruous scene that amuses and intrigues.
