Reginald Grange Brundrit was born in Liverpool and was educated at Skipton, then Bradford Grammar School. He studied art at Bradford School of Art, before moving to London to study at the Slade School, and privately with the Royal Academician, John Swan, the animal painter.

He was predominantly a landscape and portrait painter, who exhibited over 200 paintings between 1906 and 1961 at Royal Academy shows and at international exhibitions in Pittsburgh, Rome, Paris and Venice. His work was highly regarded by his fellow landscape artists, and The Times obituary commented: ” Few painters can have made their reputation with less sensation than Reginald Grange Brundrit.”

In 1931 he was elected an Associate, then a full member of the Royal Academy in 1938.  After his London art education, he adopted Yorkshire as his home and was a member of the Wharfedale Group of local artists; the Wharfe Valley often featured in his paintings and he had a studio at Linton.
