This charming fishing boat scene, features a collection of small floating vessels on an aquamarine sea. The careful composition of the work encourages the viewer’s attention towards the group of wooden boats that sit just centre right of the work. When appraising this piece, the strong use of vertical and horizontal lines here must be noted. The confident layering of such strong vertical marks to create the masts of the boats could easily have flattened the work. Instead, a wonderful depth and definitive perspective is given.
Similarly to the artist’s use of forms, the implementation of colour is specific and deliberate. To the right hand-side of the work the layers of paint have been left thin, showing the board below. As the original natural brown pigment of the board show through, a clever suggestion is given of the sandy beach where these boats have been moored.
