This eye-catching portrait captures a wealthy lady in a seemingly off-guard moment as she gazes away from the viewer. Her hair falls in luscious curls around her plump cheeks as something catches her attention just outside of the viewpoint of the painting. She is wearing a pearl necklace, as well as an ochre-coloured dress over a white slip. The use of pastel is truly masterful, with the artist depicting light reflecting off of the pearl necklace, each individual strand of hair, and the lines and shadows of skin in a gloriously accurate manner.
