This charming scene depicts a worker crouched amongst the debris of a debris site, stealing some time away from his job to pursue his passion of painting. The artwork is immensely detailed, with care taken to carefully depict the painter’s face and the folds of his clothes, as well as the nuts and bolts of the industrial scaffolding that surround him. Given the unusual and distinctly delightful subject matter, it is possible that this sketch is indeed a self portrait of the artist. The dots of red, white and blue paint transcend the aesthetic distance and make the viewer feel as if they are part of the artist’s canvas.
